BOWDOIN WINS CBB PITCHER'S DUEL, 2-1, OVER BATES

LEWISTON, Maine — Bowdoin College senior Scott Jamieson (Marshfield, Mass.) outdueled Bates rookie Mike Kinsman (Yarmouth, Maine) in a CBB and NESCAC East showdown, 2-1, on Leahey Field today.

Bowdoin (12-16, 2-8 NESCAC East) served as the home team because of field conditions in Brunswick. The Polar Bears scored their only runs off Kinsman in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior CF Rob Metzler (W. Hartford, Conn.) led off by reaching on an error. He stole second and advanced to third when the ball skidded away. He scored on rookie SS Jimmy Shea's (Caribou, Maine) single. Sophomore 2B Kevin Bougie reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on the Bobcats' third error of the inning. Bougie moved up on another ground ball and scored on a passed ball. Jamieson took over from there, going the distance for the fifth time this season, striking out four and walking none while taking advantage of three Bates double plays.

Bates (10-10-1, 4-5 NESCAC East) finally broke on the board in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by sophomore Drew McKenna (Middleboro, Mass.), his team-leading fifth of the season. The Bobcats could not tie the game however. Kinsman suffered the loss in his third complete game of the season, despite not allowing an earned run and striking out five while walking just one. The Bobcats got three hits from sophomore SS Nate Maxwell (Newport, Vt.), while rookie 2B Adam Taranto (Sudbury, Mass.) rapped a double.

The two teams will meet in a doubleheader tomorrow on Leahey Field, with Bates serving as the home team. One win tomorrow will give Bates the outright CBB crown.
