Next Reunion in 2000. James Ash is a guidance counselor at

there. He also plays a lot of golf.... Newell Cotton spent last
spring studying Arabic in Fez, Morocco, living with an extended Moroccan family

greater appreciation for the work professors must do. "Being at Duke has
really opened my eyes to the way undergraduates often lose out at large
research institutes." Matt is definitely interested in teaching at a small

Next Reunion in 1999. At the Culver Academies, Brooke
Belcher teaches English and aerobics. At the Indiana school, she is
a faculty sponsor of Choices, a student group that examines issues and
decisions teens face today.... Steve Ciciotte works at Jackson Lab in
Bar Harbor.... Back in Boston, Mike Coggins is ready to start work as a
researcher.... In Center Conway, N.H., Kate Drummond works on the
ambulance crew and has nearly completed her paramedic certification.... In her
job with a biomedical research company in Madison, Wis., Naomi Fields
travels a lot.... Kirsten Geisel lives in Boxford, Mass., working at
a physical therapy clinic and riding horses.... In Old Saybrook, Conn.,
Marci Gendreau works as a researcher for a pharmaceutical company.

Next Reunion in 2002. In an e-mail to the College in January,
Ari Friedlaender writes that he's living in Wilmington, N.C., and
working for the Univ. of North Carolina at Wilmington and the National Marine
Fisheries Service. He is also employed as a fisheries observer to monitor and
report on the commercial fishing activities in North Carolina and human
interaction with marine mammals. "I am on the beach, on the water, or in the
air more days than not," he writes. "I respond to strandings and perform
necropsies from one to three times a week. North Carolina is a high-profile
area for stranded marine mammals for a couple of reasons: there's a local
population of bottlenose dolphins that strands -- often as a result of human
interaction -- and the outer banks of North Carolina stick out into the
Atlantic, and some whale species that would otherwise not reach land strand out
there." Ari would enjoy talking to anyone who is interested or has questions
about marine mammals.... Since last August, Kristin Gagne has been a
member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Southwest. Volunteers in social
service agencies throughout Arizona and California, they work in domestic
violence and homeless shelters, schools, medical clinics, AIDS ministries,
refugee services, legal clinics, food banks and job placement....Karen
LeComte writes from the Univ. of Vermont Medical School that all is going
well. She would love to meet other Batesies "out there." Jennifer
Webber '92 also is in the Medical School there.... And right there
in Vermont, Nathan Webb is with Potter Simon Pearce in Quechee.
