Terms for Interface Designers

Slot (page slot)

A page area that can contain plain text, HTML markup, or a block.
Examples: left column slot 1; right column slot 2.

Block (block component)

Regular areas of formatted content that can be used throughout a Web site.
Examples: content list; navigation list; image with caption; slideshow launch; media launch; RSS feed.

Nest (block nest component)

A block that is used to contain other blocks, and which can be placed in a slot.
Examples: columns; shelves.

Recipe (content recipe)

A combination of slots and blocks that support a particular type of content.
Examples: home; subhome; branch-list; branch-summary; leaf-standard; leaf-story.
