BWRFC would like to congratulate Kristen "Hero" Fries '07 and Christine Chmura '05 for their successful seasons. Hero will be playing with the Seattle RFC in the Division 1 National Championships and Christine will be playing in the Division 2 National Championships. Congratulations girls, good luck, and ruck over!
The BWRFC has come a long way over the years, thanks in large part to our coach, Sam Farrell who will be returning next fall for his 7th year at Bates. In 2003 and 2004 we finished 4th overall in New England. In 2005 we finished 3rd overall in New England, and in 2004 and 2005 we were also the winners of the Downeast Conference. In 2006 and 2007 we made it to the first round of playoffs. This year we had 16 returning players and were excited to add 10 new players to our team. We are looking forward to gaining even more players next year, and further improving on our past success.
The 2008 Season looks to be another strong season for the Bates Women’s Rugby Club. With the most returning players in recent memory and some strong newcomers, expectations are high. Led by captains Elise “Karate” Ogden (forwards) and Julia “Nuts” McCarrier, the 2008 squad is poised for a run at the third Downeast Conference Championship for the Bates Women. “This may be the most athletic squad we’ve had in my six years at Bates” said Coachie (Coach Farrell) after the first two weeks of practice. Some may have thought that after graduating such a large number of A Side seniors last year that this year would be a rebuilding year, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.“We have the ability to win every game!” says Coachie.
