The Bobcats returned home today after a successful weekend away. Late Saturday night, in a game reminiscent of last season's 3rd place game at Nationals, Bates defeated Columbia 6-5 in OT thanks to a goal by Kathleen Boyland. On Sunday, the Bobcats traveled to Easthampton, MA to play Smith College. Down 2-1 with less than two minutes to go in the third period, Bates quieted the crowd as they fought back and tied up the game. The score remained at 2-2 through overtime. The Bobcats' record now stands at 3-0-1.

2008-2009 Season Begins!

We recently had some technical difficulties posting to the website, but are back in business now just as the season begins.

After a successful clinic with local youth, we began practice on the NESCAC-mandated November 1. After just six practices, we had our first game. On Saturday, November 8 at Fairfield, Bates Hockey began the season with a 13-5 victory at the Wonderland of Ice. Megan Arnold made her debut in net and Kathleen Boyland, Eve Boonseng, Caitlin Demko, Anne Mueller, and Rachel Laaf all contributed with goals. Special congratulations to Kara Sullivan, Rachel Kaplan, and Tess Glancey, who scored their first career goals.

On Sunday, Bates defeated Wheaton College in a friendly exhibition game. Next weekend, Bates makes the trek to Columbia University for a Saturday night game, followed by a game at Smith on Sunday evening.

Clinic

In cooperation with the men's hockey team, we are hosting a hockey clinic for kids this week, Oct. 27-31 at Underhill Arena.

Session A (ages 6-9): 6-7pm
Session B (ages 10-14): 7:15-8:15pm

The schedule has been updated. The Nov. 8 @ Fairfield game is scheduled for 2:00pm and a home game against MIT has been scheduled for Feb. 7 at 2:15pm.

Please come to the Activities Fair tomorrow night, Wednesday September 1 from 9-11pm at the Library Arcade (that's underneath the back of the library.) Look for our booth if you have any sort of interest in being involved with the team -- we'd love to meet you! Alternatively, if you get lost in the chaos of the fair, you can let us know that you're interested by filling out the form on the Prospectives page or emailing any of the captains. ACHA Awards

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) recently announced their All-American selections, a list featuring seven Bobcats. Co-Captain Lauren Slipp was deservedly chosen for the First Team All-American, while Kathleen Boyland and graduating senior Katie Nickerson took Honorable Mention spots. Missing from the list was Eve Boonseng, a Tournament Honorable Mention and All-American in our hearts. Exemplifying the student-athlete ideal, Katie Nickerson, Allie DuPre, Anne Mueller, and Kelley O'Connor were honored as Academic All-Americans.

Earlier in the month, the team held its annual coaches and players banquet. Fond memories of the season were relived and graduating seniors were thanked for their years of service to the team. While everyone was crowned with an individual award, the Team Awards, as voted by the players, were also announced:

Bates Wins 3rd in National Tournament!!!

Chicago, IL - After a grueling weekend of hockey, the Bobcats emerged victorious in the ACHA Women's Division II National Tournament 3rd place game to secure the bronze for Bates. Arriving in Chicago seeded #1 in the East, the Bobcats were determined to hold their own while enjoying the experience of Nationals. After obtaining their Athlete Passes, frustrating losses came Friday night and Saturday morning as the teams from Minnesota (Rainy River and University of Minnesota - Duluth) triumphed over Bates.

Saturday evening, the Bobcats defeated the #2 seed in the East, the University of Delaware, 7-1 thanks to major contributions by first-year dynamic duo Kathleen Boyland (#3) and Eve Boonseng (#8).

With their 1-2 record in tournament pool play, the Bobcats faced Delaware for a rematch on Sunday morning to determine the 3rd place finisher. After three scoreless periods, Kathleen Boyland (#3) ended the season with an exciting bang by netting a shorthanded goal in the second overtime to give Bates a 1-0 victory. Seniors Renée Dyer (#31) and Allie DuPré (#22) made the trek to Chicago to round out their careers at Bates in this thrilling game. After arriving back in Lewiston, the team presented their banner to their peers by unveiling it at Commons on Monday night. Thank you to the ACHA tournament organizers, our supporters, and our competitors for an indescribably amazing season.
