Frances Chase, '10

Believe it or not, Frances is the first and only sailor ever to come to Bates specifically for the sailing team. She also brings a lot to the table; trapeze handstands, sailing experience and a propensity to refer to New York as “the city” even though we live closer to Boston. The list goes on. But perhaps most important is her helpful on-the-water feedback. If her skipper misses the lay line, Frances might subtly say, “Boy, this should work out well.” Or if you get buried at the start, she might get your spirits up by saying “oh man, we’re moving now!” But seriously, we like her. Sometimes.
