The Bates College Sailing Team has been a part of the college for over 40 years. The team sails at Taylor Pond YC in Auburn. The program is it is designed to acomodate both racers and leisure sailors and encourage the participation of novices. We have a fleet of 12 FJs and as well as a 13' Boston Whaler. We are also growing as a competitive force in NEISA, hosting 3 regattas last year and achieving our highest-ever rank of 16th in 2005/6. Though we are a club sport, we race against varsity programs in NEISA. We travel all over New England and race at such schools as Bowdoin, BC, BU, MIT, Maine Maritime and UNH.
We also have raced at Georgetown, Hobart/William Smith, Yale, and Brown and raced in the NE Dinghy Championship, a national championship qualifier. Racers practice 3 days a week with coach Rob Haile and travel on the weekends; recreational sailors come 1 day a week. If you're looking for an opportunity to get time on the water, whether racing against some of the best college sailors in New England or learning how to sail, join us! We are also organizing several fund raising drives, and those will be posted on the club's web site as more details become available.

After the first October snowfall, we switch to iceboats (just kidding, this picture is of someone ice-sailing onTaylor Pond though).
