2005-06 Indoor Track Season

Coast Guard/MIT 1/14: Watson was inconsolable after this meet - there was no talking to him on the bus ride back to Bates. He ran an open 800 in 2:06 and then came back with a 2:08 in the relay. Although not a bad time at all, especially for a first seasonal meet and on a short track, Watson was disappointed because he and everyone else on the team knows that he is capable of running 1:58 right now. His performance at this meet will probably spark a response from him that we will see next weekend at Tufts.

Tufts Invitational 1/21: Ran 2:03 in the open 800 and came back with 2:01 in the DMR. Not a bad day at all for Watson, and even he was pleased. This past week Watson ran a workout where the last 3 200s were all in 26 seconds. He's ready to run a fast one.

USM Invitational 1/28: "I didn't have that great a day today, but I'm still so pumped about how the team did today," Watson said when he got back from the meet and was about to enter Commons for dinner, still visibly excited and grinning ear to ear from the entire team's performance. That's Watson in a nutshell - a team player all the way. And no one can really complain about he ran either. He was 3rd out of 7 in the 600 in 1:26.72. His goal going in was to run 1:25, but whatever. He was 2 seconds behind school record holder and event winner Sam Thomas, so that's not too shabby. Watson came back in the 4 x 8, running a 2:03 3rd leg. Watson is looking forward to next week's State Meet, which he has been thinking about and envisioning for weeks.

State of Maine Meet 2/4: Let's preface this by saying that Watson was psyched about this 1000m race for the past 2 weeks. It was on his mind constantly, and everyone else's for that matter. Watson had a great race in this meet. He looked strong and was competitive the entire race. The field was just ridiculously stacked. Any race where Owen McKenna from Bowdoin finishes 2nd means that the race is fast, and that is just what happened. So Watson ended up sixth out of nine competitors. He planned on going out in 2:03, but was taken out in 2:09 and ended up running 2:39. He later came back as the third leg in the 4 x 800, running a 2:03 split.

BU Valentine Invitational 2/11: Watson broke 2 minutes in the open 800 at this meet, running 1:59.68 and finishing 96th out of 148 other runners. Great race for Watson.

D III New Englands 2/18: Breaking 2 minutes in the 800 is now becoming routine for Watson, who ran 1:59 again this week in the 3rd leg of the DMR. Watson managed to close some distance between Bates and Tufts/Keene State runners, and giving CJ the baton in a perfect position. The DMR ended up finishing 4th out of 11 teams with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:38.46 (10:30.50 qualifies).
