2005-06 Indoor Track Season

Coast Guard/MIT 1/14: CJ ran a superb mile in 4:33, coming in one place behind Biggart and finishing in 5th overall. CJ's PR is 4:27 on an outdoor track, so considering that this was his first race of the season, and on an indoor track, and on a 180m track, we can expect great things from CJ this season. CJ came back again in the 4 x 8 and ran a 2:05 leg.

Tufts Invitational 1/21: Ran another fantastic mile and 1200 opening leg in the DMR. The mile at this meet was incredibly stacked (running in heats fast to slow) and CJ was unfortunately seeded in the 2nd of 3 heats. He managed, however, to win his heat with a time of 4:32, which put him in 8th overall and allowed him to score a point for the Bobcats. As Todd said after the race, "It's great to see middle distance runners racing with intensity." CJ came back in the 1200 and ran 3:15, a very solid time.

USM Invitational 1/28: CJ had perhaps the best double of his entire running career at this meet. He was 3rd/11 in the open 800 with a seasonal best of 2:01 and came back with a 1:59 anchor leg in the 4 x 800m Relay. His split was the fastest of the day, which is amazing considering that John Miley ran a 2 flat, and the team won by 29 seconds in 8:16. As John was finishing up his leg, Coach Fresh yelled out to CJ, "John is running fast! You've got to get out there!" CJ is proving to be having a phenomenal season coming in after a solid cross country season.

State of Maine Meet 2/4: If last week was CJ's best double of his life, then this week was the best meet performance of his life. Even he admitted it. He started off in 4th place with a 4:25 mile, a lifetime best by 2 seconds. 25 minutes later he came back with another 4th place finish in the open 800 in 2:00. He anchored the second place 4 x 800m relay team with a 1:59 leg, the fastest leg on the team. The team's final time of 8:14 was the fastest this season. Keep checking back every week to look at what CJ has done in the week's meet, because at the rate he's going he's going to become one of Bates' most reliable and valuable runners.

BU Valentine Invitational 2/11: It finally happened...CJ had an off race. It took 4 meets of ridiculous doubles and triples (and maybe that's the key), but CJ finally showed that he was human and finished 51st out of 56 runners in the 1000, running 2:40. He went out in the lead, and got a bit scared that he was out there alone, so he started to fade back. And of course, in the 1000, once you start to fade back you're done. So even though it didn't go as well as he would have liked, he will be ready to go for the mile leg in the DMR next weekend at Division III New Englands at MIT.

D III New Englands 2/18: CJ had a great 1600m leg anchor leg in the DMR at this meet. He ran a 4:29 split, edging out a Keene State runner at the line by one one-hundredth of a second. A lunge at the finish line was all it took. Also a good race considering that he was not feeling that great beforehand. The DMR ended up finishing 4th out of 11 teams with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:38.46 (10:30.50 qualifies).
