"My freshman calculus class had 14 students in it. That about sums up the type of education I signed up for when I decided to come to Bates. Bates is such a close community that it is not strange to run into professors playing racquetball in the gym next to us, or for the dining crew to wave to us in recognition as we finish a run.

Running for Bates has been a fantastic experience. I didn't want my time at Bates to completely revolve around running, but I didn't want to abandon running either. Coach Fresh and Goewey understand that we are students first and athletes second. The fact that Bates has one of the best running programs in the country is almost irrelevant when you look at the quality of the people on the team. We are a very close group and really a family. The degree of the team's closeness was something that I did not see in a lot of other schools I looked at."

2005-06 Indoor Track Season

Percy didn't compete in the early meets of the season. He trained with the team but only ran in the later meets.

State of Maine Meet 2/4: Ran a lifetime best of 4:33 in the mile, good enough for a 6th place finish. Came back as the 2nd leg in the 4 x 800m relay with another lifetime best of 2:01. Percy ran to see if he could pick up a point or two in an event where there were not many other Bates athletes, and succeeded in doing so.

D III New Englands 2/18: Ran the opening 1200 leg of the DMR, in a 3:14 split. Went through the 800 in 2:09 and came back with a 65 second last lap. His goal had been to run 3:12, going through the 800 in 2:08. But Bates got off to a good start, so not a bad race overall. The DMR ended up finishing 4th out of 11 teams with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:38.46 (10:30.50 qualifies).

Open New England Championships 2/24: Ran the opening leg of the 4 x 8 and shattered his lifetime best by running 1:57. The team ran a total time of 7:57.
