Bates College Men's XC and Track & Field Running Loops
The Illustrious Runs of Bates Distance
All of our runs start and end right outside Merrill Gymnasium. Several times a week during the
Cross Country and Outdoor Track seasons we finish up our runs with a few strides on the outdoor
track. During the indoor season we use the indoor track for strides.
When we aren't running on one of these loops we are either on the track or driving to a location
for a workout. One benefit of going to school in Maine is that during Cross Country, in the fall, we
have access to some of the most beautiful trails and scenic roads in the country. By cramming in two
vans and driving a short distance, we can escape from the familiar campus settings and explore what
Maine has to offer. Often, a short trip to a golf course in Auburn is a great way to sharpen our legs
and get an accurate sense of the type of terrain on which we'll be racing.
Our runs have been divided into three categories: Short Runs, which consist of 2-6 mile distances;
Runs, which consist of 7-9 milers; and Long Runs, which consist of distances over and including 10 miles.
Accompanying each run is a description and photos.
