| Bates EMS is a volunteer, non-transporting first-response emergency medical service which provides aid for the Bates College campus and community. Bates EMS is composed of student volunteers licensed with the State of Maine at the EMT-Basic level with a few EMT-I, Wilderness EMT's, and First Responders. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year, crews of three responders carry portable two-way radios with them at all times when on duty and respond to health emergencies on campus and provide Basic Life Support. All equipment required by Maine EMS is carried in in the EMS van including an automated external defibrillator (AED). ALS backup and transport is provided by United Ambulance. Bates EMS responds to an average of 120-140 calls per academic year, and has treated patient conditions ranging from general malaise to multi-systems trauma to full cardiac/respiratory arrest. |
