January 20, 2004 Well, imagine this. An update to the Cycling website. Sure its been 7 months, but hey, I was in China. So there. School is in session, jerseys are in the process of being ordered. For all of you that actually look at this site (that number steadily approaching zero if it isn't already there) we do not have enough orders for bottoms this year. So those are not getting ordered. Jerseys and jackets are being ordered and if you want to be really cool, you can buy 10 extra pairs of bottoms and then we can order bottoms and everyone will be happy!

So go bike or ski or whatever you do. There are people (a.k.a. Will Adams) who are biking now so call them up and be like yo, lets go bike, biatch.

Peace.

April 26, 2003 Good ole Craigipoo made us a movie, so we look like a real team!! WOW! Imagine that. Check it out!!

Lots of racing has happened in the past few weeks. Picture are still being developed and they should be up shortly. Racing summaries will make it up soon too. Congrats to Nate, Ari and Knack, and Sarah for doing A races and qualifying for Nationals!! Good luck ya'all!

Oh, and one more thing...Bates Cycling is NOT putting on a race. Lets just say we're not exactly organized? 'Nuf said. Go ride your bike.
April 2, 2003 Congrats to ALL 17ish racers this weekend!! This was by far the largest amount of racers we have EVER had. We had racers in every category except womens A, and almost everyone scored points! Congrats to all!! If you wanna see the results, check out www.eccc-info.com and look at race results.

Don't forget this coming weekends races at UConn. Contact Ari "Fatso" DeWilde if you want to race.

The next couple weekends go as follows. Army, then Dartmouth/Williams. Easterns at UNH is after that, and then...BATES!!! Yes we are having a race. Yes it actually is going to happen. And yes we need to get our asses in motion if we actually want to have it and have people show up. Email Crinny if you want to help out for the race. We need ALL the help we can get!!

And lastly, don't forget about Nationals in Cali coming up the weekend after our race. As of now, we are qualified. So go race an A race and you just might be able to go...

March 5, 2003 News Flash       Nate is a retard.

Now onto real news. The website is updated. Wow. Jerseys can now be found in the Pictures Section

This past weekend, nate went to the races and finished 7th in the A race. Thats quite the improvement from last year where he would be dropped by little old ladies walking on the road. He was our only racer. Everyone else is not retarded and like sleep and partying. This weekend is at penn state. Nate found some other retards to go with him. He has successfully dropped the nickname "quitter" and is now branded with the title of "king of the retards". cool. no offense to retards or anything.

Feb 12, 2003 YAY! An update!! Did you see the jerseys? Do you like them? Do you want one? too bad 'cause we already ordered them. HA. sucker. But they're cool and we will have 50 some people walking to their classes in them.

As nate keeps reminding us the season is starting soon. He's already been out riding and is going to peak in about 2 weeks, but for the rest of us, go send some emails, make some calls and lets start riding. We's gonna kick some ass this year yo. As Axle put it, "let's get this motherfucker on!"

Check out www.eccc-info.com for more info about the meeting and the race schedule for next season!

Nov 11, 2002 The Bates Cycling Team is hosting a "race"!!!!!! After Easterns but before Nationals, we're putting on a race. If you want to be part of this, email Crinny and tell him you're cool.

Check out www.eccc-info.com for more info about the meeting and the race schedule for next season!

Oct 26, 2002 Ok, not so much about the forum. It'll be back soon. right...

Oct 24, 2002 The forum is back up!! All 3 of the posts that have accumulated on it in the past half year are lost and all 1 other person than me will have to re-register, but it is back up. There is an ad, but thats the only way it would go back up. Have fun with it. Yay!

In other news, jeresys are progressing nicely. I have recieved many offers from companies and we are close to making a decision about them. I'll try to put a template of the jersey online, but as of now, email Nate about the design. They are mainly black with red stuff and a bobcat and some logos and stuff. Check out the forum for more info on them.

Sept 22, 2002 Today was a very sad day in Bates Cycling History. We have been saddened by the loss of a dear friend. Slappy the Squirrel was struck and killed in a fit of vehicular rage today by our own Will Adams.

Most likely perterbed by his 2nd place loss in today's time trial, Adams apparently swerved his vehicle and made squirrel pancake on the road. Crinny and Nate, who also had good races today and were present when the "accident" occured, are still in shock.

If you wish to send funds in memory of Slappy the Squirrel please e-mail Corey.

Our hearts go out to you Slappy.

Sept 20, 2002 Bike Tuneup Day is coming!! On this wednesday, September 25th, under the library terrace, from 5-7 at night, Bates Cycling Club will be giving FREE tuneups to ANY bike that you bring!

July 17, 2002 Yay! The forum is finally back up! There is a special section for jerseys, so talk about them there. We can actually use the forum eh?

July 14, 2002 The jerseys are almost finished. Check them out! They're dope ass yo. Email Craig about them.

And yes the forum is gettin there. Hopefully it'll be up in a few days. Go watch the tour or something.

July 9, 2002 Le Tour de France! Nuf said.

July 8, 2002 I know the forum is down. Should be back up thursday. And i'm sure this is of great importance to all of you because you actually know that there is a forum and you are using it. Right.

June 27, 2002 I just added a new forum. It is much much better than the old one, and i'm sure all of you will notice because you *saw* the old one, but oh well. It is really cool and i suggest that you use it.

June 13, 2002 I had an epiphany. Goto http://www.cyclingnews.com and check out the updates for the Criterium du Dauphine Libere. Just might give ya a hint about that big tour coming up in July.

And as if you really care, here are the predictions for this year's tour. Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano then Lance. Damn close though. Beloki not too far behind. ONCE will dominate this tour. Yes, that is my prediction.

June 12, 2002 Yes. An update to this site. About time, but there is no info to report. I'm sure people are riding and racing, but I don't know about it. So, goto http://www.usacycling.org or http://www.bikereg.com and search for some peeps. Or do stuff like that. You would be really cool. Then you could email me and give me an update. Yes, that would be a good idea.

Aparently, this site is on the ECCC site, so beware. There are other people from other colleges looking at this. So keep your pants up and top on or something like that. Probably just pants up cause we don't have any girls on the team...yet. But unless some of the guys have...right. Just keep on your clothing, keep your mouth shut and don't make the biggest fool of yourself.

In traditional Bates fasion, flowers and bunny rabbits. I'm out.

May 17, 2002 There are a few races this weekend, the first being the road race at Lake Sunapee on saturday. Torso is racing it along with a few Rainbow riders. It should prove to be interesting. Almost all of the categories have been filled, but if you want a good race to watch, this should be a good one.

The other race this weekend is the Lost Valley mountain bike race. There is everything from beginner to expert so all of you with a mountain bike should make your way over there! Goto http://www.rainbowbike.com and check out the race flyer. It all starts at 10 in the morning, so come on over!

May 13, 2002 Nationals were this past weekend! Our only rider, Ari DeWilde, had an outstanding weekend, finishing 16th overall. In a very difficult criterium, Torso finished 26th. The rather sketchy course was chaulked full of riders in the first few laps, but the "wall" on the course took its toll and the pack quickly thinned out. With constant attacks from numerous riders, the pace quickened and proved to be too much for Torso. Torso was pulled only about 5 or 6 laps into the race, but due to the destructive pace, enough riders had already been pulled and Torso finished in a surprizing 26th place, grabbing a few omnium points.

In the road race, things were very different. Prerace thoughts for Torso consisted of only one thing: stick on Tyler Wren's wheel. Torso followed as Wren played his game and at the top of Middlebury Gap, the first of 2 difficult climbs, Torso was on Wren's wheel. At this point, an Oregon rider was over 3 minutes up on the field and the pack began its surge to recapture the potential victor of the 2002 NCCA road race. Although the Oregon rider was eventually caught, he caused most of the race to be split up. At the bottom of Appalacian Gap, Colorado College rider, Robert King had a small gap on the pack. Assuming the hill would end any gap, the pack watched as the eventual victor rode away. King won over last year's road race champion, Tyler Wren, by a minute and change. Torso posted his best result of the season and continued his streak of top 10 finishes in Vermont on his R2000 and placed 10th, just under 3 minutes back, but only 30 seconds out of 4th place. Mad props to him yo.

These two finishes were enough to place 16th overall at nationals! Check out all of the results at VeloResults.com
May 9, 2002 Nationals are this weekend! Come out to UVM and check them out. Look at their website and check out the races!

May 2, 2002 The teams for the 2002 Tour de France have been announced! Check out the article for the full story.

April 30, 2002 Here's the recap for Easterns at Penn State.

Things went pretty well aside from a low rider turn out. Torso (Ari), Saddlebags (Craig) and Mexican Hairless (Corey) took the long road and gave Penn State the visit of the century. The course was really easy except for the last 3 miles. Look at the profile for the road race and you will understand. Almost all of the races played it easy for the laps and waited for the hill to determine the race. In a rather uneventful race, Mexican Hairless and Saddlebags finished 10th and 16th respectively in the D race.

Torso raced in a much more interesting A road race. A large break formed during the first lap of the rolling 13 mile loop. By the second lap, it was essentially cut down to a Harvard rider and a Princeton domestique working for Tyler Wren. The breakaway entered the final 3 mile climb with close to 3 minutes on the field, but an attack by Princeton's Tyler Wren quickly caught the break and Wren went on for the win. Torso, who sat at the pack of the pack for most of the day, watching the race and getting feeds saw his golden opportunity on the hill but was too late as by the time he moved to the front of the field, it had already been split up by Wren's attack and he had missed the break. Torso pulled through with a national's qualifying 16th place, scoring Bate's only points for the day. Had we partaken in the Team Time Trial points would have been guarenteed due to the lack of teams that raced in it.

The criterium on sunday proved to be very difficult. Saddlebags raced in the D field again, and on the wet, slippery course, he steadily moved up throughout the race. With just 2 laps to go, he was in the pack competing for the 11th place spot, but an unfortuante mechanical failure led to a minor crash and he lost the pack. Saddlebags held on and finished in a very respectable 15th place on a difficult crit course.

Mexican Hairless moved up a category into C with high hopes, but the hillly, technical course proved too much and he was lapped halfway through the race. Of the 39 starters, only 16 finished the race.

Although we did not have any riders in the B crit, it was one of the most exciting races that I have witnessed. A solo break by Penn State's Kevin Rennie in the latter half of the race looked as though it was strong enough to win, but an attack by the powerful sprinter Justin Peters from UNH on the final climb of the final lap edged out Rennie as they crossed the line. A very exhilirating finish.

The A crit brought a new level of racing to the Eastern Championships. While most of the other races posted lap times of around 1:20-1:40 min, the A crit pushed a blistering pace and neared the 1 minute mark on numerous occasions. Post race banter from Torso points towards this grueling pace, "The was the hardest crit I have ever done." Torso watched from the back of the pack most of the day as attacks came and went. The most notable of these being that from Princeton's Tyler Wren and UVM's Kevin Bouchard-Hall. Quickly gaining time on the field, this dynamic duo seemed as though they were invincible from the field. Invincible from the field yes, but not to mechanical failure. In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, Wren came across the lap by himself. Giving a quanderous (sure I just made a word up. I'm cool like that) look to the crowd. Bouchard-Hall was no where to be found. As the field closed in, with Torso still sitting in the back, a greatly distressed Bouchard-Hall ran--yes ran, not rode--to the wheel pit. A lap down, Bouchard-Hall rejoined leader Tyler Wren and watched his potential victory go up in smoke. As Wren crossed the line, he gave a double fisted salute. Closely behind him, but still a lap down, Bouchard-Hall looked at the crowd frustrated. Torso finished in 27th place, a good finish for the self-proclaimed "bad sprinter."

Overall for the weekend, Bates finished tied for 22nd place out of 24 teams. Had more racers attended, perhaps a better finish could have been achieved...

For results from Easterns, check out http://www.eccc-info.com and scroll down to the Easterns results.

Torso will be competing at nationals from May 10th-12th at the University of Vermont. I expect to see all of you there!

April 22, 2002 A wee bit of a recap of this week's events?

But first, a plug for this weekend. Come to Penn State and watch us tear up everyone in every race, including the Team Time Trial!

Spring break is over and we are coming off of 2 good weekends. Aside from low racer turn out, our presence was still felt at the races. The University of Connecticut races went well, with Willard taking two 5th place finishes in the C road race and crit.

Torso finished in second to last place in the A road race, one place out of points. His results are not representative of his efforts. Torso dominated most of the race with a comanding solo break of up to 2 minutes on the pack for the first 50 miles. A missed water bottle here and a missed PowerBar there, and a bigger bonk came on. Torso was caught by a chase group of 4 riders in the second to last lap of the 6 lap race and eventually the pack. He finished 15:34 behind the winner.

Recently and newly named Quitter, a.k.a. Nate, dropped out of the A race after one lap (it was 12 miles long!).

In the crit, Torso was pulled from the A race. Quitter on the other hand, was very active in the first few laps of the B race. He was in several early breaks, getting a few prime points, but the relentless B pack took it's toll and Quitter was eventually pulled.

Crinny, Mexican Hairless, and Craig didn't race.

Bates finished a respectable 15th out of 21 for the weekend.

You can check out results at http://www.BikeReg.com/news/results02/

In the Army races, the organization of our club nipped us in the butt. Arriving late for the road race, Crinny and Mexican Hairless missed the start of the D and C races, but since no one had preregistered, no money was lost. Torso raced in the A race and was in the lead pack until a little over half way through the race. Lady Luck just wasn't on Bates' side that day and Torso flatted. The wheel truck didn't arrive until a little over 5 minutes later, creating a gap that was essentially impossible to recover from. Torso dropped from the dreary and wet A road race with one lap to go.

Quitter didn't show.

Neither did Willard or Craig.

Sunday was chaulked full of racing! Starting out with the criterium in the morning, Crinny and Mexican Hairless raced C. Crinny collected some prime points, but was eventually dropped from the pack, finishing in a sprint with an Army rider. Mexican Hairless, coming off of a 10 mile, two week total and fighting the cough that won't die fell off the pack early, but kept in the race just enough to not be pulled.

Quitter was renamed to Nate. After finally learning his lesson, Nate stayed in the pack the whole race and finished a very respectable 15th or so (results aren't up yet) in the B race.

Torso again did not finish his race. He was very active during the race and was in the lead pack until the very last lap. He was plagued with bike trouble, if you can call it that on the very last lap of the A crit. On the turn starting the last lap, Torso was involved in a 5-10 man crash. In the jamble, Torso somehow managed to implant his bike in a UCONN rider hindering both of them from rejoining the pack. A dissapointed Torso watched the final sprint from the sidelines.

The Team Time Trial bit us hardest. It started out all jolly, with Crinny's "aero bars" but a slightly extended warm up by Torso and Mexican Hairless caused a problem. We missed our start time by about 2:30 minutes. Lack of practice of riding in a tight rotating pace line and different fitness levels led to Crinny being dropped after a very short while (he got to ride in an Army hummer though) and loss of time. We finally got our act together about half way through the race, but our last place finish was destined from the start.

Our next races are Eastern's held at Penn State. I know all of you want to make the 10 hour trek down there and watch us redeem ourselves in the Team Time Trial and dominate all of the other races!
