BCF is part of a larger community of students throughout the state and the country who are associated with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF). IVCF sponsors a variety of resources for us as well, like...

OCT 3-4 - at Colby College, we will be going to hear Bruce Main, the director of Urban Promise. UP is a ministry that provides educational, vocational and spiritual resources for urban children and youth in Camden NJ. For the past several years, BCF has been involved in a spring break service project with UP. Bruce is a powerful speaker and will be speaking Friday evening on "Making Faithful Choices." On Saturday, he will be leading a seminar on Christian leadership. You can come for one or both events.

OCT 24-26 - at UMaine, we will take part in the Fall BLAST conference. Once a semester, IVCF sponsors a state wide conference on some topic of Christian faith and life. The theme of this weekend will be Spiritual Formation. Hallie Cowan, a spiritual director who works with IVCF in MA, will be the speaker. These are great weekends for their content, the chance to meet other students from surrounding colleges, and for the opportunity they give us to spend extended time with each other away from the rush of campus. Brochures will be available at BCF on Wednesday (at 7:00 remember!).

NOV 15 - here at Bates as a result of the Black Campus Ministry conference in Boston which many of us attended last April, Rev. Gloria Hammond will be our guest for a seminar on living faithfully as Christians in the college context. Patrica Dunbar, Melanie Shaw and Bill Cutler will be working to coordinate this.

DEC 26-31 - at the University of Illinois is the trienniel Urbana Missions Convention. This draws students from all over North America to consider God's work in the world and our part in it. There are 6 from BCF already planning to attend and registration is still open. It is anticipated that the convention will be filled to capacity by late October, so check out the web site and consider registering now. The web site is www.urbana.org.

powerful week of exploring the call of the church to be God's representatives throughout the world.
