Voices: a Bates 'coming out' anthology was first complied by Sara Stone in the fall of 2005. The first edition was released in recognition of National Coming Out Day. They were printed as booklets and distributed around campus. Every year hundreds are printed, and every year we run out of copies. Everyone is invited to write, and writers have included students, faculty, staff, family, and friends, and people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight. It is our hope that this project will become an annual tradition.
A second edition was compiled by Erin Reed '08 and released a year later, in the fall of 2006. Click here to read it.
A third edition was also compiled by Erin Reed '08 and was released in the spring of 2008. Click here to read it.
