sometimes bisexual people are not considered part of the queer community

i am part of the queer community because...

-of public displays of affection with same-gender lovers
-of the way we appear together
-of writing and talking openly about my experiences
-of facing sexual orientation discrimination. i've dealt with it.
-of just going out to the gay bar
-of performing at and being in queer pride events
-of living with the knowledge that i feel something that i need to hide
from certain people and wondering constantly about backlash and judgment
-of dealing with how it affects friends and prospective lovers when i tell
them i'm bisexual
-of worrying about another facet of risk from STDs and AIDS and HIV
-of how limited places are to meet other queer folk safely
-of thinking about how politics regarding same-sex marriage and civil
rights affect me and makes me feel less accepted in this world
-of having to speak up when encountering hate speech or ignorance, even in
the guise of humor
-of making the sexual man-moans we make that others may hear as we hook-up
in my hot apartment with all the windows open
