Schlage (2004)

Schlage is a musical anthology. It combines recordings from 2004, 2003, and 2002. The senior class of 2004 including Ian Jones, Mike Silvers, and Andy Whitaker contributed their voices, arrangements, and leadership to bring this CD into existence. The project was an effort to be sure that the notable post-Syllogism voices in the early 21st-century of Deansmen history were not forgetten, were not lost in between albums. The product reflects three years of Deansmen history: six college classes of prime male voices.

Vocal Syllogism (2001)

Released in early March 2001, Vocal Syllogism marks the modern maturity of the Deansmen. Under the musical direction of Ryan Baker '00, the Deansmen bring together enduring DeansHits like Girlfriend and Insomniac with new arrangements from Baker '00, Introne '97, Staecker '00, and the rollicking She's Famous Now, arranged by Frizzell '00.

Introne (1998)

This album is, according to the cast of Introne, their best work in years. Aside from the vocal dexterity exhibited on the album, its major strength is in its musical variety. The Deansmen explored the frontier of modern A Cappella, but did not forget their roots, with rearrangements of classic Olin 128 Deansmen tracks. Introne is an exploration of the Deansmen as a phenomenon, that does all that it can to entertain.

Did you know?
Introne is the first ever Deansmen CD to be recorded in the Olin Arts Center concert hall at Bates. While the Deansmen chose to do this because of severe lack of funds, the sound quality is more than satisfactory.

What does the title mean? Introne is an Italian term meaning "big noise." We prefer not to describe our music with this term, but we feel it best captures the enthusiasm that we all feel when performing together.

Alternate Introne Names: Junk, Wiggum, Refried Deans.

Similar to Mos Eisley, Introne was produced over a two year period. In what is perhaps the second largest Deansmen blunder ever, the names of the new members for the 1997-1998 group were not printed in the CD jacket. In order to attempt to repair this flaw, the Deansmen printed several hundred CD inserts, and inserted them individually into the finished CDs. Those still in possession of an unopened Introne may notice a thin slit in the plastic wrapping, made to accomodate the insert. The Deansmen are proud to bring you the only CD that you will ever buy that contains a real insert.

Deansmen: From Mos Eisley (1995)

There are no more copies of Mos Eisley. As such, we've put up MP3's of the whole album! You may have to put a new file extension on them, but they should work. Enjoy.

Did you know?
You may have noticed the listing of an unprecedented sixteen singers on this album. As careful examination of the roster will show, Mos Eisley was actually recorded over the span of two groups. Members of the class of 1994, like Matt Sullivan, never actually sang with the likes of John Shim, class of 1998. It is curious indeed that there is no mention in the CD jacket of this schizofrenic production, and no effort to differentiate the tracks of the two different groups. This will surely remain a long-standing Deansmen mystery.

The rediculous inconsistencies in Mos Eisley's track listings will no doubt go down in history as the greatest Deansmen blunder ever. Any monkey with minimal eyesight can see the glaring oversights in the song title printing. The "of" in track 12, "Kingdom of Shy," is not capitalized, presumably because "of" is not a sufficiently significant word to warrant capitalization. Any fool can see, however, that track 8 boasts a capitalized "Of!" An identical problem arises in the word "to" in tracks 2 and 11. While the Deansmen considered a full recall of Mos Eisley, the group was too anxious to get the disc on the street, and hoped that their fans would not realize the mistake until they were in their homes, with their money already locked away in the Deansmen cash box.

Olin 128 (1993)

Even though it was released a year after Digital Fromage, this album was the first deansmen CD to sell out. Sadly, Olin 128 is now only available through over-priced import copies from the UK. Because the CD itself is sold out, we've released the full album on MP3 format right here! Click on a track above to download it. You may have to put a new file extension on them, but they should work.

Did you know?
This album was named after the Deansmen's then-favorite practice room 128 in the then-almost-new-and-still-interesting Olin Arts Center. In the years since, the group has realized that Olin 128 (the room) is severly lacking in acoustic quality, and have tried at all costs to claim Olin 243 as their practice room, leaving the unpleasant 128 to their sister group The Merimanders, and later the CrossTones.

Both the back face of the disc and CD itself are emblazened with the group's newly designed logo, an eighth-note with a yin-yang inside it, encircled with the multicolored words: "take a part." This was anticipated to become long-standing emblem of the group, and was given hype of a similar magnitude to many Disney animated films. It was to be a slingshot into the future of A Cappella, as some members even had it tatooed onto their bodies. Much like the post-Lion King Disney films, however, the icon did not last long. It is nowhere to be seen anywhere on their next album only two years later, and has faded from the collective Deansmen memory much like the talking tree from Pocahontas.

Digital Fromage (1992)

This, the first of the Deansmen's releases on CD, hearkens back to the A Cappella era of yesteryear. The CD begins with a re-arrangement of the Deansmen classic "House of Blue Lights." A more doo-wop, jazzy sound is characteristic of the album, in songs like "Mood Indigo" and "Under the Boardwalk." Of course, there are notable exceptions, most obvious is the critically acclaimed "Deansmen Rap."

  1. Funky House MP3

Although the final Digital Fromage CD was sold in late 1997, there are still about 50 tapes of this album available for only $5. To get one, contact Mark Prelli Since we don't really expect to sell any more of these, we've uploaded MP3s of all the tracks for your downloading pleasure. You may have to put a new file extension on them, but they should work.

Back by Popular Demand (1989)

This is the earliest album that is currently in the hands of the group today. Although it's 10 years old, it's got some songs that we still love to sing. The sound is clearly old-school A Cappella, most exemplified in "Tempted," with an arrangement that would never have come out of an A Cappella group of the '90s.

Track List

  1. House of Blue Lights MP3
  2. Up on the Roof MP3
  3. My Girl MP3
  4. Aphrodite MP3
  5. Softly MP3
  6. Tempted MP3
  7. That Lonesome Road MP3

Availability
If you've got one of these, you can consider yourself lucky. The collective group only possesses one copy. This album is not available by any stretch of the word. So that you can enjoy it, we've but up MP3s of all the tracks. You may have to put a new file extension on them, but they should work. Enjoy.

Did you know?
Track 2, "Up on the Roof" is a long-standing Deansmen classic, and is still sung in the same arrangement today, a decade after BBPD's release. Hard-core fans will notice the incorrect lyrics in Andrew Stabnick's solo ("a paradise that's trouble proof"). This mistake propagated for ten years, with every Deansmen soloist singing incorrect lyrics until John Ambrosino '01 corrected the mistake.

The Sturgis Tapes (1969)

These recordings were given to The Deansmen in early 1999 by Deansman Jeff Sturgis '69. These are the earliest recordings that the group has ever heard of the Deansmen, and are great fun to listen to. We don't know much about this tape, but it seems that half of it is a recording from a live concert, while the other half is a private recording. The group's sound is drastically different from the Deansmen of today, with a much more classical A Cappella feel. Although there are songs here which the later Deansmen have done, the style is markedly different. The MP3s are here for posterity's sake. I'm not sure of a lot of the track names, or really anything about some of these songs. If you've got any info, let me know.

Track List

  1. Coney Island Baby / Daddy Get Your Baby Out of Jail MP3
  2. Mandy Be Mine MP3
  3. In the Still of the Night MP3
