Sutherland, Bates' All-Time Leading Rebounder, Dead At 57
LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College has learned that James Sutherland, class of 1961, the school's all-time leading rebounder in men's basketball passed away after a brief illness July 19 at the age of 57Êat his home in Moultonboro, N.H.
Sutherland was the only player in Bobcat history to record 1,000 career points and rebounds. He holds the school records for rebounds in a game (37, against Clark in 1961), season (418, 1960-61) and career (1,002). In addition, he ranks 16th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,058 points. At the time of his graduation, he was just the second 1,000-point scorer in Bates history.
