Bates' Bonkovsky Shares Weekly Honors
LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College senior center Sarah Bonkovsky of Harvard, Mass., has earned Co-Player of the Week honors from the Maine Women's College Basketball Association (MWBCA) and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). She was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Bonkovsky averaged a "double-double" this week with 19 points and 11 rebounds per game. She shot 16-for-29 (55.1 percent) from the field. Bonkovsky also made seven steals and had five assists for the 3-1 Bobcats, who were 2-0 this week. Bonkovsky had 23 points and seven rebounds in Bates' 106-72 win over the University of New England. In the Bobcats' 57-56 win at Bowdoin Dec. 5, Bonkovsky led the team with 15 points and 15 rebounds as Bates rallied from a 19-point deficit in the final 8:12, outscoring the Polar Bears 23-3 to end the game.
For the season, Bonkovsky is second in the NESCAC and third in Maine with a 19.2 points-per-game average. She leads the Bobcats in rebounding at 9.2 rebounds-per- game and in free-throw percentage at 88.2 percent on 15-for-17 shooting. Earlier this season, she became the seventh 1,000 point scorer in Bates history and is currently sixth on the Bates all-time scoring and rebounding lists.
Bonkovsky is a 1993 graduate of The Bromfield School. She is the daughter of Herbert and Marilyn Bonkovsky, 80 Slough Road, Harvard.
