O'Malley Named To All-America Soccer Team

LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year forward Kate O'Malley of Deephaven, Minn., has been named first-team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

O'Malley is the fourth Bates women's soccer All-American in history and the second to make the first team, joining Amy Brunner '94. O'Malley is the Bobcats' second All-American this fall, along with sophomore Adelia Myrick of Kodiak, Alaska, who earned the honor by placing 15th at the NCAA women's cross country championship meet. O'Malley was one of just two New England players named to the first team and one of two first-year players named to any of the three teams.

O'Malley was the leading scorer for Bates as the Bobcats' reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships. In the NCAAs, O'Malley scored three goals and assisted the fourth in the Bobcats' 2-0 road wins over Bowdoin and previously undefeated Williams. She set Bates records for goals (18) and points (43) in a season. O'Malley, a first-team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and All-New England selection, scored twice as many goals as any other player in the conference. The Bobcats ended at 13-3-1, tying the school mark for most wins in a season.

O'Malley is a 1996 graduate of Minnetonka High School. She is the daughter of Charles and Mary Jane O'Malley of 4660 Spring Creek Drive, Deephaven.
