Bates Women's Soccer Places Two On All-N.E. Squad
LEWISTON, Maine -- A pair of forwards, first-year player Kate O'Malley of Deephaven, Minn., and sophomore Colleen McCrave of Walpole, Mass., have been named first-team All-New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The Bobcats ended the season with a 13-3-1 record, tying the school mark for most wins in a season. Both players were previously named second team All-New England by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association. They were the only two underclass players named to the NSCAA first team, and two of three named to either of the first two teams.
O'Malley was the primary scoring force behind the Bobcats' reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships. In the NCAAs, O'Malley scored three goals and assisted the fourth in the Bobcats' 2-0 road wins over Bowdoin and previously undefeated Williams. She set the Bates records for goals (18) and points (43) in a season. O'Malley, a first-team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) selection, scored twice as many goals as any other player in the conference.
McCrave was second on the team with six goals and 16 points. In two years, she has amassed 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 career points. Four of her six goals were game-winners.
O'Malley is a 1996 graduate of Minnetonka High School. She is the daughter of Charles and Mary Jane O'Malley of 4660 Spring Creek Drive, Deephaven.
McCrave is a 1995 graduate of Walpole High School. She is the daughter of William and Annmarie McCrave, 6 Eagle Drive, Walpole.
