Bates Linebackers Earn Regional, Conference Honors

LEWISTON, Maine -- A pair of Bates College linebackers, senior Mike Holte of Marshfield, Mass. and first-year player Frost Hubbard of East Walpole, Mass., have been chosen as All-New England and All-Conference selections.

Holte was named first team All-New England by the New England Football Writers. He also was named by the football coaches of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) as an All-NESCAC performer. Holte, a co-captain this year, has been the team's leading tackler for the past four seasons, establishing a school record with 430 career tackles, including the single season mark of 126 his first year at Bates. This year, he finished with 120 tackles, including 24 solo stops and six sacks. He forced two fumbles and recovered three more. He earned NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week after the season's first game and was twice named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Honor Roll.

First-year linebacker Frost Hubbard of East Walpole, Mass., was named NESCAC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Hubbard trailed only Holte in tackles this season. He had 102 tackles this season, including 22 unassisted and five for a loss. Hubbard had two interceptions and broke up two more passes. As a short yardage fullback, he scored one touchdown on an eight-yard reception. Hubbard was twice named NESCAC Rookie of the Week and once ECAC Rookie of the Week. This marks the third time in four years that the Bobcats have produced a conference Rookie of the Year.

"This is a terrific honor for both young men," head football coach Rick Pardy said. "Mike has had an outstanding season and career and deserves to be honored for it. We hope that Frost can have the same impact that Mike did."

Holte is a 1993 graduate of Marshfield High School. He is the son of Kathleen Holte of 81 Nevada St., Marshfield.

Hubbard is a 1996 graduate of Walpole High School. He is the son of Frost and Melissa Hubbard of 18 Park Lane, East Walpole.
