Bates Linebacking Tandem Honored By ECAC, NESCAC

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College first-year linebacker Frost Hubbard of East Walpole, Mass., and senior linebacker Mike Holte of Marshfield, Mass., have been honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) for the week of Oct. 28 for their performances Oct. 26 against Colby College.

Hubbard was named Rookie of the Week by both the ECAC and NESCAC. This marks the second week in a row he has won the NESCAC award. In the Bobcats' 28-21 loss to Colby, Hubbard had 10 tackles, four of them solo and one for a loss. He forced one fumble and made one interception, returned for 14 yards. Hubbard also made one touchdown catch for eight yards as a short-yardage fullback. For the season, he is second on the team with 76 tackles and two interceptions.

Hubbard is a 1996 graduate of Walpole High School. He is the son of Frost and Melissa Hubbard of 18 Park Lane, East Walpole.

Holte, the Bobcats' co-captain, has been named to the ECAC Honor Roll twice this season. Previously, he was named after the Bobcats' season-opening loss at Trinity, for which he was also named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week. This Saturday against Colby, Holte had a remarkable 21 tackles, five of them solo. He also had one sack, his team-leading sixth of the season, and two fumble recoveries. Holte leads the team with 92 tackles, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He has led the team in tackles each of the past three seasons.

Holte is a 1993 graduate of Marshfield High School. He is the son of Kathleen Holte of 81 Nevada St., Marshfield.
