Taylor Takes Home Two More Awards

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College first-year forward Amy "A.T." Taylor of Orono was named Player of the Week in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and Rookie of the Week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for the week ending Feb. 11.

This is the second time this season the Taylor has been honored by the NESCAC and the third consecutive week and fourth time overall she has either shared or won NEWBA Rookie of the Week honors.

Taylor has been a key factor in Bates' 13-7 season, the third most wins in a season by a Bates women's basketball team. The Bobcats, who were 1-2 this week, lost on the road Feb. 6 to the No. 4 team in Maine, Bowdoin College, 86-80 in double overtime, to start the week. They bounced back to defeat Norwich University, 78-52, Feb. 9 in Northfield, Vt. The next day they extended the No. 2 team in New England, Middlebury College, to the limit before falling, 54-51.

Taylor averaged 20.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on the week. In the loss to Bowdoin, Taylor had 25 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. She also hit a 3- pointer with five seconds left in the first overtime to tie the score at 75 and send the game into a second extra session. Against Norwich, Taylor score 24 points on 10-for- 17 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-6 from 3 -point range. She also grabbed 11 boards, while holding Norwich's top scorer to 14 points. Finally, at Middlebury, she had 12 points and just one rebound, as the Bobcats gave the Panthers their closest game of the season at home.

For the season, Taylor is averaging 18.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Both figures are second the team. She is also fourth on the squad with 49 steals.

Taylor is a 1995 graduate of Orono High School. She is the daughter of Thomas and Katherine White Taylor of 38 Westwood Drive, Orono.
