The Bobcats received three second-place finishes and a sixth-place finish to earn 25 points and a tie for ninth place overall at the meet.

Senior tri-captain Steve Beardsley of Melrose, Mass., took second place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.65, less than a half a second behind the winner. Beardsley also earned All-New England honors during the indoor season in the 800 meter run.

Junior distance runner Justin Freeman of Enfield, N.H., finished second in the 10,000-meter run in 31:21.21, qualifying him for the NCAA Division III National championships, which are May 21-24 at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. This will be Freeman's second national championships this year. He also participated in the NCAA skiing championships, where he earned All-America status.

Junior Walter Jackson of Hartford, Conn., took sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, one-half inch. Jackson was the 1996 State of Maine champion in the shotput. Senior thrower Paul Kolter of Manchester, N.H., took second place in the hammer throw with a throw of 179 feet, two inches. Kolter, who is already an All American from the winter season in the 35- pound weight throw, has qualified automatically for the NCAA championships. This is his second straight All-New England honor and his second trip to the NCAAs in the hammer throw.

Beardsley is a 1993 graduate of Melrose High School. He is the son of Kenneth and Linda Beardsley, 63 Windson St., Melrose.

Freeman is a 1994 graduate of the Saint Bani School. He is the son of Donavan and Barbara Freeman, Franklin.
