Bates Students Seek Stories of the Great Depression

LEWISTON, Maine -- Students in a Bates College economics seminar are asking area residents who lived through the Great Depression to discuss their experiences.

The seminar, "Hard Times: The Economy and Society in the Great Depression," is being taught by Anne Williams, professor of economics. She said that students already have arranged a number of interviews, but that the class is eager to hear about the Depression years from a variety of viewpoints.

The class is working on a project to document the Depression in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Anyone who is interested in participating may call Williams at 786-6091.
