Russian pianist to perform

LEWISTON, Maine --Internationally recognized Moscow pianist Ramiz Akhundov will perform a program of classical music at Bates College on Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Akhundov's program will include Chopin's Ballades Nos. 3 and 4, Scriabin's Sonata No. 3 in F-sharp minor, Op. 23 and Rachmaninov's Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 36. A pianist with the USSR Cultural Fund in Moscow from 1988-94, Akhundov served first as professor of piano and then as assistant dean of the paino department at Gadjibekov Azerbaijan State Conservatory in Baku from 1977-88. He has performed as a soloist and ensemble member on televison and toured throughout Europe and the United States.

The Russian musician trained at the Chaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, the Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory and the Gadjibekov Azerbaijan State Conservatory. For additional information about the concert, call Olin Arts Center at 786- 6135.
