About the Archives
The Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library serves as the official repository of the Archives of the College. These are records and other materials that document the history and development of the College from its inception to the present and that have permanent administrative, legal, fiscal or historical value. These records include, but are not limited to, administrative papers, correspondence, reports, electronic records, published and/or printed material, scrapbooks, photographs, and any associated records in any format or on any media. In addition, the Archives seeks to collect records of student, faculty, and staff organizations, selected personal papers of Bates faculty and staff, and other materials about the College.

The following lists the records for each college department, unit, etc, and is ordered by record group and sub-group number. Displayed links are to each collection's finding aid; where no link is provided, no finding aid is yet available. In some cases, where no electronic finding aid is available a paper index or container list is available in the Archives; consult Archives staff for more information.
Please note where applicable any restrictions to access within each collection. In most cases, it is best to give Archives staff at least 24 hours advanced notice when wishing to research in any collections besides those held in the Archives Reading Room. Remember that all material is for in-building use only, and does not circulate.
