Historical Note

Ruth Rowe Wilson was born in Lewiston, Maine, in 1915. Her parents were Harry W. Rowe, Bates graduate and longtime Dean of Faculty, and Hope Chandler Rowe. She had two siblings, a brother, Robert, and sister, Esther. Ruth attended Bates College and graduated in 1936, the same class as Edmund S. Muskie, and later served as editor of the Bates Magazine. She married Val Wilson, who served as President of Colorado College for Women and at Skidmore College. As of May 2011, she lives in Fairfield, California.

Scope and Content Note

These files include clippings and biographical material relating to Bates graduate Kohe Nakagura, a clipping relating to an item of Rowe family history, a folder of correspondence, and her senior thesis written while a student at Bates. This copy of the thesis is hand written, and the folder also contains correspondence to Wilson during her research into Ocean Park. The Correspondence folder includes letters to Wilson from Edmund S. Muskie and Dorothy Clarke Wilson, among others.
