The collection is comprised of artifacts associated with Bates College, its faculty and students, and its programs. There is a broad range of material, including banners and pennants, clothing, pins, plaques, trophies, scientific and photographic equipment, canes and other processional items, gavels, and trowels.

The collection is divided into eleven series based upon format.
