Bryant came into contact with Stephen Rich in the fall of 1952 during his research process. Dr. Stephen G. Rich was a former instructor at a school in the city of Durban in Sourth Africa from 1916 to 1920. Rich referred Bryant to Anthony de Wet, a fellow professor in Durban, who lived in the Cape of Good Hope as a boy. Bryant also contacted Sidney Lake, a long-time friend of Rich, who fought in the Boer War as a soldier in the Transvaal army.
