Historical Note

Established in 1998 with support from Bates College and President Donald W. Harward, L/A Excels was composed of "colleges, schools, hospitals, municipal governments, arts organizations and businesses that work together to create a shared vision of excellence in community development." L/A Excels supported work towards an L/A conference center, a community arts center, community and neighborhood improvement efforts, and green corridors and biking paths. L/A Excels also created the Lewiston-Auburn Civic Leadership Institute.

This collection details the function and activities of the L/A Excels office at Bates College. The files contain correspondence and memoranda, reports, mailings, publications, and meeting minutes and agendas. The records came from the office of L/A Excels administrator Beckie Conrad.
