Historical Note

The office of Dean of the College was created by President Reynolds in 1970, by merging the separate administrations of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women. James Carignan served as the Dean of the College from 1970 until his retirement in xxxx. During that tenure, the office administered many of the functions held currently by the Dean of Students office, as well as administering many programs and units such as the Center for Service-Learning (now the Harward Center), the Muskie Archives, and the College's Environmental Coordinator.
