Withdrawal Area
This procedure documents use of the Withdrawal Area in Bibliographic Services. This information
is used by Library staff and student assistants under the direction of the Associate College Librarian for Systems and Bibliographic Services.
Liaisons
For this area:
- Put trucks of LC-classed monographs that are cataloged separately in the Withdrawal Area, under the shelves on the left side.
- Items in the Withdrawal Area will be withdrawn using batch processes, then offered to Better World Books, sold to a dealer, or recycled.
- Please note that circulation statistics and reserve notes are lost once items are withdrawn.
Not for this area:
- Start a workform if you are weeding Serials/Standing orders (classed or unclassed). Put the workforms in Sharon's box, unless you have already pulled the items from the shelves. In that case, put the workform and the books on a truck in front of Sharon's office.
- Use workforms to weed periodicals. Put the workforms in Sharon's box. The only liaison who pulls periodicals is LaVerne, to send to JSTOR.
- Large multi-volumes sets on a single record (e.g., Grove Dictionary of Music). These go to Sharon with a discard note.
Bib Services Staff
- Put earlier editions on the shelf on the left side of the Withdrawal Area. Place item on shelf toward the front of the work area if the bibliographic record is no longer needed; place item on shelf toward the back of the work area if the bibliographic record is still needed (i.e., another item is attached to that record).
- Put damaged material the shelf on the right side of the Withdrawal Area--items on these shelves will automatically be recycled or trashed once withdrawn.
Place item on shelf toward the front of the work area if the bibliographic record is no longer needed; place item on shelf toward the back of the work area if the bibliographic record is still needed.
- If any material is checked out (e.g., to bind and mend), check it in and change status to g before placing on the shelf.
Student Assistants
- Supplies for the area (e.g., withdrawn stamps, packing tape) are in the wooden holder on the desk on the right side of the Withdrawal Area.
- A copy of these procedures, of Better World Book procedures, and book truck IDs are on top of the supplies holder.
- Desk to the right is for packing boxes of books, and storing packed boxes before shipping to Better World Books.
- Shelf on the left contains serials to pull from stacks.
- Flat boxes are on the floor underneath the desk on the right side of the Withdrawal Area, and in the cupboard underneath the desk.
