Ingeniux CMS Tips: Adding Left Side Navigation Links

The left side navigation links are most often generated by the Navigation-Page: set to either “Children” or “Siblings” In addition, or if navigation is set to "none” other links to xml and non-xml pages may be added. This process is accomplished by adding Link Groups.

Located in the Content Store, under Shared Internal Components, are the existing Link Groups (both Internal and External) already built and ready to be reused.

If the Link Group is already created:

  • Check out the page to which the link group is going to be added,
  • click and drag the group to the Navigation-Links box,
  • the name will appear with the x no.,
  • Save the page, and preview.
Your new link group appears below the maroon line, after any children (or sibling) links.

If you wish to create a new Link Group consisting of XML pages from the Content Store:

  • Right click on the appropriate Link Group folder (or create a new folder with the office or appropriate name),
  • choose New, Component
  • Name – type in words that reflect the office and/or purpose – ex. Positions available
  • Type: use pull down arrow to select Link Group
  • Click ok.

Click and drag into the Link boxes the xml page(s) from the content store you wish to add, in the order they should appear on the text page to which the group will be finally added.

To add more link boxes to the group:

  • Under Tools, add special – element,
  • type in the name as Link [or External Link caution: be sure to type in exactly as labeled],
  • Type = pull down to ICMS Link (for internal link) or ICMS component (if external link is desired),
  • click ok, and the link is added to the top of the list (be aware of order of your links)
  • Save it.
If you are done creating links, reopen the page the navigation was created for, click and drag the new link group to the Navigation-Links:.

Creating External Links (any non-xml page) to be part of Link Groups:

  • In Link Box name type the text of the link (remember this is going to be in a navigation column)
  • URL = full path
  • Rollover – only added for certain page types, and should briefly explain the link
  • Save it.
  • Open the Link Group that this external link will be a part of, click and drag the External Link into the box labeled External Link.
  • Save it
  • Reopen the page that the navigation was created for, click and drag the new link group to the Navigation-Links box .

Additional Navigation-Links boxes can be added to the Group.

  • Under Tools, Add Special, Element,
  • Name = Navigation-Links (type in name exactly),
  • Type = Navigation Component, click ok, and the new one appears at the **top** of the page.
  • Repeat process above for creating the additional link group.
As always, please remember to save your work, preview it, check it in, mark for publish, and publish those items ready to go live!
Please be sure to refer to the webguide http://abacus.bates.edu/webguide/navigation/linkGROUPS.html for additional policies and practices.
