When You Get an Attachment:

Do not open attachments in email that do not come from someone you know and that you know has installed virus protection on their computer. Many email viruses are now spread by unknowing friends.

If you get an attachment in email, choose to save it rather than open it. Save the attachment to your desktop or in a folder where you can find it again easily.

Scan the file and if the file is infected, disinfect it first before opening it.

If you use Internet Explorer and Outlook, set them NOT to open an attachment or run a program when you select a mail message.

One sure clue that an attachment has a virus can be found in the MIME definition code you see above the attachment. Most viruses are carried by files with the extension of .com, .exe, .scr or .pif (there are many others). Sometimes the MIME definiton file will say the file is type audio or wav file, but below that, the name of the file will be filename.scr not filename.wav. This is probably a virus message.
