performed an illegal operation, and shut down all on
its own?

disable virus protection, and shut down all other
programs before installing new software
- When
installing new software, try one application at a
time, that way if there are problems, it will be easier
to determine the cause (usually the last thing installed)
- Downloading
from the internet is not advisable - not necessarily
compatible with our network setup
Basics
- when an application is not acting the same as the
last time you used it, quit and start again, even restart
the computer, and start fresh to see if the quirks have
gone away.
- Has
it ever worked correctly, if yes, how did you access
the application, from a shortcut or from the program
files list on a pc or the hardrive on the mac? Best
to try launching from the direct source, not a desktop
shortcut.
- Use
keyword searching in the applications help to troubleshoot

for specific software applications supported at Bates.

K online tutorials for staff to not only use for learning
the application, but also the help sections
- Converting
or swapping files between Macs and PCs - save as plain
txt, or pc format or may require the use of an intermediate
program like Mac Link Plus, or Conversions Plus, available
at the Help Desk

searching a website of a software manufacturer for troubleshooting
is often a direct solution to your problem.
