How to customize a gradebook template using Microsoft Excel.

This gradebook example includes:

  • creating a list of enrolled students
  • specifying the number of graded items, their individual values, and weights, and overall statistics
  • specifying the break points for grades, along with warning flags for the lower grades
  • connecting the enrollment list with the grades and breakpoints
  • adding a chart of letter grade distributions

The original idea for this gradebook came from a website at the University of Missouri.

  • add attendance worksheets
  • color code content generated by formulas and pulled from other worksheets

  • combine scores and items pages for clarity, ease of editing
  • fix cumulative score to simultaneously use multiple scales, based on 10 or 100 points, for example
  • add sub-worksheet
    for multiple part assessments with scores averaged
  • add sub-worksheet
    for mulitple part assessments with scores that are summed
