ILS: LEARN > EMAIL

Don't know where to start? We have information regarding how to choose an email browser.

At Bates College, we recommend the use of Mutt, WebMail and Thunderbird for accessing email.

We strongly recommend against Microsoft Outlook
because it is a target for viruses.

If your computer is off-campus, you may set up your computer for dial-in access to Bates. Access to Bates dial-in is possible from most locations within the State of Maine, but cannot be guaranteed.

When trying to access subscription-based online indexes, databases, and periodicals using an ISP other than Bates, the proxy server prompts you for your abacus ID and password, and allows you access whether you’re in Lewiston, Boston, or Quito.
