ILS: BACK TO SCHOOL: NETWORK RESOURCES

Network Activation: SNAP

Networking your computer at Bates is a SNAP! To gain network and Internet access, you must first "register" your computer on the Bates network. The Student Network Activation Program (or SNAP) guides you through the process.

Network Storage: Paris

All students, faculty, and staff have space available to store personal files on a network server named Paris. Storing files on your own computer and then storing a copy on Paris will ensure file availability and protection against loss of data and wasted labor.

For further details, including how to move files to and from Paris, see http://www.bates.edu/ils/network/paris.html

Network Printing

Need to do special printing or just want to use a laserjet instead of your desk jet? There are several networked printers that you can print to from your dorm room or from one of the campus computing labs. For further details, see http://www.bates.edu/ils/network/printing.html

Off-Campus Access to Network Resources

Living off-campus? Wish you had access to the College's network, library databases, voice mail, and e-mail? Now you can! Information and Library Services provides these services to the current student, faculty, and staff who are away from or off campus.

Dial-In Access

Information and Library Services provides dial-in access to the Bates network. This service has been established to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff who require this service for college-related activities. Access is available on a first-come first-serve basis and is not guaranteed. For further details, see: http://www.bates.edu/ils/network/dialin/

Proxy Server for Library Databases

If you connect to the internet using a non-Bates internet service provider (ISP), such as EarthLink, you will not have access to the full-range of our subscription databases on the Ladd Library web pages. To access these services, you need to configure your browser to connect to the Bates proxy server. For further details, see http://www.bates.edu/ils/network/proxy/.

Voice Mail

Students living off-campus are provided with a voice mail box on the Bates telephone system. Information about your voice mail box number and setup instructions will be mailed to you.
