Since the early 1970s, the Bates College Concert Series has offered an attractive mix of music and performance styles.  This year is no exception, as the Series brings classical, international, and jazz performances to campus. The extraordinary Panamanian pianist and composer Danilo Pérez is among the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time. In just over a decade, his distinctive blend of Pan-American jazz (influenced by music of the Americas, folkloric and world music) has attracted critical acclaim and loyal audiences. Pérez will perform at Bates with bassist Ben Street and drummer Adam Cruz.

Brazilian-born brothers Sérgio and Odair Assad have set the benchmark for all other guitarists by creating a new standard of guitar innovation, ingenuity and expression. Equally at home in exploring the music of South America, the Baroque as well as an array of contemporary works, this guitar duo has recently collaborated with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Fernando Suarez Paz, Paquito D'Rivera, Gidon Kremer, Dawn Upshaw and The Turtle Island String Quartet.

For the first of our three-year cycle of complete Beethoven String Quartets, we are hosting the Auryn String Quartet from Germany for two concerts. Having studied with the Amadeus and Guarneri Quartets, this ensemble has developed into one of the most important quartets of its generation since its founding in 1981, touring extensively and performing regularly in the major concert halls of Europe, Israel, North, Central and South America, Australia and Asia, including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, Wiener Konzerthaus, the Frick Collection and Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall.
