Camps and Athletic Programs

Bates College All-Sports Camp

June 30 - July 12, 2002, and July 14 - 26, 2002

Eric Bertelsen '72Now in its 20th season, the Bates All-Sports Camp introduces boys and girls ages 8–15 to a wide range of athletic experiences. The program is designed to help youngsters develop skills and — most importantly — healthy attitudes about sports and competition. Activities are designed to enable every camper to experience a genuine sense of accomplishment through participation. A broad range of sports is offered, including aerobics, basketball, field hockey, fitness, floor hockey, football, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. A swimming program is an integral part of the curriculum.

Youngsters need not be exceptional athletes to attend camp. Indeed, some campers have never participated in sports before. Others have, and hope to play on their schools' teams. Virtually every camper encounters challenge as well as success.

Director: Erik C. Bertelsen, Jr., Bates Class of 1972 (pictured above). A professional staff of educators, the camp director and carefully selected college students combine to provide a variety of choices and instructional experiences. A high staff-to-camper ratio helps ensure quality participation for each youngster.
