Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between September 7, 2003 and September 20, 2003.

Burglaries

09-10-03 - A resident of Moody House reported the theft of 65 DVD's and 9 Play Station games from his room. The total value of the items is $1750.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Thefts

09-09-03 - A student reported that his black racing style bicycle seat was taken from his bicycle while it was locked to the bike rack in front of Wentworth Adams Hall. The value of the seat is estimated at $50.00. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

09-11-03 - A student reported that his backpack was taken from the area of the football field. The backpack and its contents had a total value of $514.00. On 09-16-03 the backpack with its contents was located at Concierge. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Bike Thefts

09-11-03 - A resident of Parker Hall reported that his black and red Giant 24 speed mountain bike was taken from the bike rack in front of Parker Hall. The chain lock that secured the bike was also taken. The value of the mountain bike and chain lock is $360.00. The mountain bike was not registered with Security and Campus Safety. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Motor Vehicle Theft

09-17-03 - An employee of Media Services reported that their golf cart was missing from the rear of Pettengill Hall since 09-14-03. The value of the golf cart is $2500.00. On 09-15-03 the Lewiston Police Department located the golf cart on Robinson Gardens in Lewiston.


Other Incidents

09-19-03 - Residents from John Bertram Hall reported finding s small area of the rug on the first floor that appeared to be burnt. An investigation into the incident is continuing.

09-20-03 - Three males approached a student while he was walking on Oak Street during the early morning. One of the males grabbed the student's arm and threatened him with a knife while demanding his wallet. The student was able to get away from the group and immediately reported the incident to Security and Campus Safety. The Lewiston Police Department was notified of the incident. A Security Alert was issued to the college community.


Narcotics Laws

09-10-03 - A resident of Hacker House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

09-10-03 - A visitor was charged by the Lewiston Police Department for violation or Narcotics Laws.

09-11-03 - A resident of Frye House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

09-13-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws outside of Parson's House.

09-13-03 - A resident of Parson's House was charged by the Lewiston Police Department and another resident of Parson's House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

09-18-03 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws


Liquor Laws/Policy

09-10-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

09-10-03 - A resident was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Law Policy.

09-11-03 - A resident was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

09-11-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws inside Pierce House.

09-12-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of The Liquor Law Policy inside Holmes House.

09-13-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws inside Cheney House.

09-13-03 - The blue-slip holder was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Law Policy during a blue-slipped event at Small House.

09-13-03 - The blue-slip holder was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Law Policy during a blue-slipped event at Rand Hall.

09-17-03 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Law Policy.

09-19-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws at Smith Hall.

09-19-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws at Smith Hall.

09-19-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws and a false identification was confiscated in front of Smith Hall.

09-20-03 - An unregistered keg was confiscated and a large party was dispersed in Village Three.

09-20-03 - A student was charged with Liquor Law violations on Fyre Street.


Neighborhood Complaints

09-11-03 - The Lewiston Police Department charged two residents of 494 Main Street with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol after receiveing a number of complaints about the noise coming from the residence. Another student was charged with Disorderly Conduct.

09-12-03 - The residents of 410 Main Street were given Disorderly Conduct Warnings by the Lewiston Police Department after receiving complaints about the noise level.

09-13-03 - The Lewiston Police Department dispersed a party of 20 to 25 students at 227 Oak Street after receiving complaints about the noise level.

09-13-03 - The residents of 410 Main Street were given Disorderly Conduct Warnings and a party was dispersed by the Lewiston Police Department after receiving complaints about the noise level.

09-14-03 - The Lewiston Police Department issued Disorderly Conduct Warnings to the tenant and dispersed a party at 44 Nichols Street after receiving complaints about the noise level.

09-20-03 - The Lewiston Police Department dispersed a large party of 100 students at 218 College Street after receiving complaints about the noise level.
