Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between September 26, 2004 and October 9, 2004.

Aggravated Assault

10-03-04 - A student reported being assaulted and harassed by two individuals on Frye Street. The two individuals then fled in a motor vehicle. Officers from the Lewiston Police Department and Security & Campus Safety located the vehicle and charged one of the occupants for assault and issued criminal trespass warnings to four other individuals.


Assault

09-29-04 - A student reported being pushed by another student. The complainant will bring the matter to the attention of the Dean of Students.


Arson/Criminal Mischief

09-27-04 - Officers found a political sign that had been burned outside of Chase Hall.


Theft

10-02-04 - An employee of Carnegie Hall reported that her wallet and waist pack was taken from her office. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.


Criminal Mischief

09-29-04 - A window in the rear of Wilson House was reported broken. The cost to replace the window is $199.00.

10-02-04 - Students reported that light fixtures were damaged in Village Two. Two visitors were responsible for the damage. Damage to the light fixtures are estimated at $386.06.

10-03-04 - A resident of Parsons House reported finding a large hole in the first floor hallway.

10-08-04 - Officers noticed that an individual had attempted to cut down a twenty foot Maple tree in the Rand Field.

10-09-04 - A fire extinguisher in the basement of Smith South was discharged, along with a middle size hole in the basement of Smith North was discovered.


Criminal Trespass

10-07-04 - A student reported a suspicious male sitting in a motor vehicle in front of Smith Hall. Due to his actions and evasive answers to questions, the individual was issued a one year criminal trespass warning. The Lewiston Police assisted Officers.


Narcotics Laws Violations

10-01-04 - A resident of Hacker House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

10-02-04 - Two residents of Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

10-08-02 - Two residents of Frye House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

10-09-04 - Two residents of Small House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws Violation

10-01-04 - A resident of Hacker House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

10-01-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

10-02-04 - A resident of Village One was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

10-03-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws, which took place on College Street.

10-07-04 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws, which took place outside of Rand Hall.

10-07-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

10-08-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws, which took place outside of Rand Hall.

10-08-04 - A resident of Frye House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.


Neighborhood Complaints

09-26-04 - Security & Campus Safety went to 410 Main Street, at the request of the Lewiston Police Department, to assist them in speaking with the tenants for a disturbance. The tenants were issued disorderly conduct warnings. The incident took place at 12:04 a.m.

10-02-04 - At 12:04 a.m., Security & Campus Safety, along with the Lewiston Police Department went to 174 Holland Street after receiving several noise complaints about a large party. The Officers terminated that party.

10-03-04 - The tenants of 218 College Street were issued a disorderly conduct warning after the Lewiston Police received complaints about the loud party.

10-03-04 - The residents of 254 Oak Street were issued a disorderly conduct warning in reference to the noise complaint the Lewiston Police received from the neighbors. The incident took place at 1:05 a.m.

10-09-04 - The tenant of 77 Nichols Street was issued a disorderly conduct warning by the Lewiston Police in reference to the party that was taking place. The incident took place at 11:41 p.m.
