Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between September 21, 2003 and October 4, 2003.

Thefts

09-21-03 - A delivery person from a Lewiston food establishment, reported an individual had stolen their delivery and not paid for the service. The individual was identified and payment was made to the establishment.

09-22-03 - A student reported that her personal items were stolen from the storage room of Parker Hall. The property included a Sharper Image Stereo and a Samsonite travel suitcase. The value of the property is $550.00. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

09-27-03 - A student was observed taking an iron, an ironing board and a broom from Village III. The items were returned to Village III.

10-01-03 - A student Safewalker reported having her flashlight stolen after leaving the item in front of Pettengill Hall. The flashlight is valued at $80.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Bicycle Theft

09-30-03 - A student reported that her rusty Diamondback mountain bike was taken from the front porch of Small House. The value of the bicycle is $40.00. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Criminal Trespass

09-29-03 - A juvenile was given a criminal trespass warning after he was found inside Alumni Gym.

10-03-03 - Officers located three individuals outside the Chapel after they received complaints that the group was harassing other individuals. The three individuals were given criminal trespass warnings.


Narcotics Laws

09-26-03 - A resident of Frye House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws/Policy

09-25-03 - Two residents of John Bertram Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Hard Alcohol Policy while another student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Liquor Laws.

09-25-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Laws inside John Bertram Hall.

09-27-03 - A visitor had alcohol confiscated in violation of Liquor Laws while in attendance of a Rugby Game.

09-27-03 - Two residents of Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students Office: one for violation of Liquor Laws and the other for violation of the Hard Alcohol Policy.

09-27-03 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of Liquor Laws.

09-28-03 - A student was issued a summons on Campus Avenue by the Lewiston Police Department for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

10-03-03 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of Liquor Laws outside of Smith Hall.

10-04-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of Liquor Laws inside Rand Hall.

10-04-03 - A resident of Hedge Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of Liquor Laws.

10-04-03 - A visitor had alcohol confiscated in violation of Liquor Laws while entering Smith Hall.

10-04-03 - Two residents of Moulton House were referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of Liquor Laws.


Neighborhood Complaints

09-21-03 - At 3:59 a.m. the Lewiston Police Department dispersed a loud party at 88 Elm Street after receiving complaints about a loud party.

09-22-03 - At 12:17 a.m. the Lewiston Police Department dispersed a gathering at 77 Nichols Street after receiving complaints about loud noise.

09-29-03 - Lewiston Police issued a disorderly conduct warning to the resident and dispersed a large party at 44 Nichols Street after receiving complaints about the loud noise. The incident took place at 12:36 a.m.

10-04-03 - The Lewiston Police Department dispersed a party at 77 Nichols Street at 11:30 p.m. after receiving complaints about the loud noise.
