Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between September 12, 2004 and September 25, 2004.

Sexual Offenses

09-13-04 - A male was observed by Security Officers acting suspicious in a motor vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot next to Lake Andrews. The Lewiston Police arrested the individual for indecent exposure and criminal trespass.


Burglary

09-13-04 - An employee of Pettengill Hall reported that her wallet and its contents were taken from a large canvas bag that was left in her office. The Lewiston Police were advised of the incident.


Thefts

09-17-04 - A student reported the theft of his credit card number. His credit card number was used to make purchases without the student's athorization. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.

09-19-04 - A student reported her cell phone and jacket was taken from a lounge on the second floor of Ladd Library. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.

09-25-04 - A student noticed that the hubcap to her front passenger tire was stolen while her vehicle was parked in front of Stillman House. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.


Suspicious Condition

09-23-04 - Several students reported receiving phone calls from a female caller who was asking the students for thier personal information.


Criminal Mischief

09-14-04 - An 8-foot table was found broken next to the rear foyer doors of Olin Arts. It appears that an individual used the table to write graffiti on the building. Replacement cost to the table is $212.00.

09-20-04 - A complaint was filed through the anonymous reporting form about dorm damage that occurred in Parker Hall. Two residents of Parker Hall came forward and took responsibility for the damage that consisted of two ceiling tiles damaged and a chemical fire extinguisher being expelled.


Narcotics Laws

09-25-04 - Six students in Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws Violation

09-17-04 - Officers found five students in violation of State Liquor Laws inside Milliken House. They were referred to the Dean of Students.

09-17-04 - The Lewiston Police issued a warning to a student for being a minor in possession of alcohol and furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol. The student was referred to the Dean of Students. The incident took place outside of Howard House.

09-18-04 - Two residents of Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

09-18-04 - A student and a visitor was observed in violation of State Liquor Laws at the Den Terrace. The student was referred to the Dean of Students.

09-19-04 - During an event at the Den Terrace, eight students were referred to the Dean of Students for various violations of State Liquor Laws.

09-25-04 - Six students inside Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

09-25-04 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws outside of Mitchell House.

09-24-04 - Three residents of John Bertram Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

09-25-04 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Neighborhood Complaints

09-12-04 - Lewiston Police responded to 410 Main Street and issued a disorderly conduct warning to the tenants of the apartment. The incident took place at 12:11 a.m.

09-13-04 - The residents of 227 Oak Street recieved a disorderly conduct warning from the Lewiston Police due to the number of noise complaints they were recieving. The incident took place at 2:09 a.m.

09-18-04 - The residents of 26 White Street recieved a disorderly conduct warning from the Lewiston Police after recieving complaints about the loud party that was taking place. The incident took place at 11:27 p.m.

09-18-04 - The Lewiston Police issued the tenants of 161 College Street disorderly conduct warnings and advised them to clear the apartments of visitors due to the loud noise from the building. The incident took place at 11:36 p.m.

09-25-04 - The Lewiston Police issued a blanket disorderly conduct warning to the tenants of 26 White Street due to the excessive and ongoing disturbances that have been taking place at the address. The incident took place at 10:53 p.m.
