Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between August 29, 2004 and September 11, 2004.

Thefts

09-02-04 - A student reported that the rear tire of her bicycle was taken. The bicycle was locked to the bike rack outside of Chase Hall. The tire is valued at $50.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.

09-02-04 - A student reported the theft of his skateboard. The skateboard was left leaning against the light post in the Olin Amphitheater. The value of the skateboard is $80.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.

09-08-04 - An employee reported that her wallet and its contents were stolen from the employee's lounge of Lane Hall. Total value of the items stolen is $90.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.


Bicycle Theft

09-08-04 - A student reported the theft of her bicycle from the outside bike rack of Village 3. The Schwinn Hybrid bicycle was left unattended and is valued at $350.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.


Narcotics Laws

09-08-04 - Officer observed an employee of a Painting Contractor smoking marijuana behind Underhill Arena. The Contractor and Physical Plant were informed of the incident.

09-08-04 - Two residents of Wilson House were referred to the Dean of Students for Narcotics Violations.

09-10-04 - A resident of Smith Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for Narcotics Violations.


Liquor Policy Violation

09-11-04 - A resident of Village 2 was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the college Liquor Policy.

09-11-04 - A resident of Village 1 was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the college Liquor Policy.


Neighborhood Complaints

08-29-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police and Security and Campus Safety spoke to the residents of 218 College Street after receiving a complaint about loud music and a party. The resident received a disorderly conduct warning and dispersed the party. The incident took place at 2:02 a.m.

09-07-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department and Security and Campus Safety went to 227 Oak Street after receiving a complaint about a loud party. The Officers spoke to the residents of the apartment and the residents were given a disorderly conduct warning. The incident took place at 1:08 a.m.

09-07-04 - The Lewiston Police advised Security and Campus Safety of a neighborhood complaint at 218 College Street. Officers from the Lewiston Police and Security and Campus Safety moved more than 300 students from the area of College, White and Frye Street. The incident took place at 11:30 p.m.

09-11-04 - The Lewiston Police and Security and Campus Safety responded to 44 Nichols Street for a neighborhood complaint of a loud party. The students renting the apartment were told to disperse the party and were given a disorderly conduct warning. Police Officers returned to the apartment due to the loud music and arrested the renter for disorderly conduct.

09-11-04 - The Lewiston Police advised Security and Campus Safety of a neighborhood complaint from 75 Elm Street. A resident complained about the noise level when groups of students leave the apartment. The residents of 75 Elm Street were spoken to about the complaint. The incident took place at 11:32 p.m.

09-11-04 - The Lewiston Police Department advised Security and Campus Safety of a neighborhood complaint at 26 White Street. The students renting the apartment dispersed the party that was being held at the address. The incident took place at 12:11 a.m.
