Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between August 12 , and August 25, 2001.

Narcotics Laws

8-14-01 - Three people were observed drinking and smoking marijuana at the base of Mount David. The three males were issued Criminal Trespass warnings by Security. One of the subjects was summonsed for the sale and use of drug paraphernalia, as well as possession of a useable amount of marijuana by the Lewiston Police Department. All three were also issued warnings for public drinking by the Lewiston Police Department.


Theft

8-12-01 - A participant in a Bates College summer program reported the theft of several items from the base of Mount David. Taken were a set of Bates keys valued at $20.00, a notebook valued at $2.00, a white fringed cotton wrap valued at $10.00, two pens valued at $5.00, and a "New York Times" magazine valued at $3.00. The total value of the stolen items was $40.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

8-12-01 - Another participant in a Bates College summer program also reported the theft of items from the base of Mount David. Stolen were a Tsunani green, orange, and brown canvas bag valued at $60.00, a Fischer CD player valued at $70.00, a Led Zeppelin CD valued at $15.00, two Realistic speakers valued at $30.00, two journals valued at $20.00, a key ring with seven keys on it including two Bates keys valued at $30.00, and credit cards. The total value of the stolen items was $220.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Bicycle Theft

8-18-01 - A bicycle that was secured to the back porch of Holmes House was reported stolen. The Hard Rock Specialized 15 inch blue bike was valued at $400.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.
