Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between July 15, and July 28, 2001.

Burglary

7-20-01 - A wallet was reported stolen from an unlocked office at Ladd Library. The black leather one fold wallet contained a driver's license, credit cards, and approximately $40.00 in cash. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Criminal Mischief

7-17-01 - A dry chemical fire extinguisher was expelled on the ground floor of Smith Hall North. A custodian was called in to clean up the area. No damage was done. The cost to replace the extinguisher is $10.50, and a life safety fine of $75.00 will be assessed to the Creative Writing Program housed in Smith Hall at the time.

7-25-01 - While on routine patrol, Security came across a series of trees on Mount David that had been spray painted in white, and some rocks that had been sprayed in red. The Physical Plant was called to remove the paint. There is no cost at this time for the paint removal.
