Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between June 17, and June 30, 2001.

Burglary

6-19-01 - A wallet was taken from a purse in an unlocked room at Pettengill Hall. The wallet and some sales receipts were found in the stairwells of the building. A $100.00 in cash was missing from the wallet. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

6-19-01 - Two master keys were reported missing from Merrill Gymnasium. The keys were valued at $10.00.

6-19-01 - A pair of New Balance running shoes was taken from a locked locker at Merrill Gymnasium. The shoes were valued at $55.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

6-20-01 - A twenty dollar bill was stolen from a wallet that was in an unlocked locker at Merrill Gymnasium.


Theft

6-18-01 - A black leather bi-fold wallet with a carrying strap was reported taken from a purse at Lane Hall. The wallet was valued at $40.00. The wallet contained a BatesCard, various other cards, and $40.00 in cash. Total value of the missing items is $90.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

6-25-01 - A student reported the theft of several items from the storage area at Rand Hall. Missing were: a Macintosh G3 computer valued at $2,000.00, a Macintosh 15 inch screen valued at $400.00, an Easy Quest CD Burner valued at $250.00, a JVC VCR valued at $200.00, and two RCA speakers valued at $25.00 each. Total value of the missing items is $2,900.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Bicycle Theft

6-29-01 - A participant in one of the summer programs reported the theft of his sonšs bicycle from the bike rack in front of Village 1. The unlocked bike was a 16 inch blue 5 speed Huffy valued at $300.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

6-29-01 - An unlocked bike was reported missing from the bike rack at Smith Hall. The 16 inch 18 speed purple Sears mountain bike was valued at $65.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

6-29-01 - An unlocked bike was reported missing from the outside bike rack of Village 3. The 16 inch 7 speed purple Trek mountain bike was valued at $200.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.
